About Me

I am a Junior at the University of South Alabama. My major is elementary education with an emphasis on kindergarten. Children are one of my passions. Making a child happy also makes me happy. In my free time I like to write poetry, read about new technology, and relax when the opportunity presents itself. I am a person who loves to try new things, like snowboarding.

THE FIRST YEAR

beginning...

There are 250,000 new teachers hired in the United States every year. Even though these are high numbers for employment, the decision of going into teaching creates a whole new set of things to worry about.

a huge problem...

In college, there is always that thought of what the first day of teaching would be like, and there are more positive thoughts than negative thoughts. It seems as if we don't think about what we know until we start. After that college to teaching transition, a lot of teachers have debt from those high student loans. This is where the problem could start for most; this could bring about the survival stage much quicker.

classroom management...

In that first year, every teacher has in their mind that great classroom management and teaching go hand in hand with each other. A good teacher will know or eventually learn how to manage their classroom well. This is only if the students motivate the teacher to do so. If not, there will be a number of students with behavior and discipline problems.

Treats on Fridays

If the class is good, I will bring a treat to show them my gratitude

Hall Monitor

The student of the week gets to be a hall monitor for the front of the line, bathroom breaks, and lunch visits.

Sanitizer

On bathroom breaks, just to speed things up a bit, I would tell my class to forget about washing their hands. When they exit the bathroom, I would apply sanitizer. I would also tell them that this only applies in this classroom. Wash your hands everywhere else.

Family Tree

Whenever a child is feeling homesick, all they would have to do is go to the place in the room where they have brought a picture from home and see their loved ones.

Fight-back Rule

I want to use this method with my class. Whenever a student is feeling bullied, all they have to say is "I don't like it when..." then include the words that show what is bothering them. The most important part is to say it to mean it.

Technology

I intend to have multiple computer units inside of my classroom to promote self learning. This way, students can figure out how to do things on their own and not need a teacher to give instruction. With young children in kindergarten, there is not much technology I can use with instruction.
